Revival Isn’t Always Convenient
“Will You revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” Psalm 85:6
Have you noticed that the word “revival” is being spoken of by many people these days? Let’s remember that revival is not about the popularity of a preacher, the giftedness of a teacher, or the power of a speaker with a special anointing. Churches may hire revival superstars or worship wonders and put together revival services – but that’s not revival.
Revival is a sovereign act of God that can’t be worked up on earth – it must be brought down from heaven. God provides the fire if we provide the sacrifice!
The biblical word for “revival” is often used in a prayer asking God to revive unsaved people and to fill His people with a fresh anointing as we read in the above verse, “Will You revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?”
Brokenness isn’t fun, but it is powerful! Hurts aren’t amusing, but they are valuable! Many times God breaks into our lives using the broken places and the hurting places in order to make us into His image. All that to say this – the power of revival only flows through broken vessels.
Revival isn’t always convenient, but it’s always life changing. Keep in mind that revival is for the sinner – the sinner needs to be brought to spiritual life in Christ. Refreshment is for the saint – the saint needs their redeemed spirit wakened to the move of the Holy Spirit again. Revival is always experienced two ways: a new move of the Holy Spirit in a country’s people and it’s a new awareness in the country’s churches. If this is the making of a wide-spread revival in the land, it will be a dynamic season for churches in America! I know that the Holy Spirit is ready, but is the church in America?
I have found that God doesn’t always makes sense to me. What I want now is usually a timing issue with Him. If these are the days of revival stirring in the hearts of the lost, then one thing I know for sure – God will have His way in their lives because they will be impacted eternally by the gospel of Jesus Christ!
I do believe that God has called us to such a sovereign season! And that means that it’s a season of spiritual refreshment and not spiritual retirement! And that means that it’s a season of spiritual advancement on Satan’s kingdom and not a season of apathy in God’s kingdom.
The light of revival always falls in the darkest places of our depravity. One of the greatest reason God brings refreshment to the saints and revival to the sinners is because that’s when we all can find the safest place on earth which is the will of God.
God bless you,
Pastor Dave
