Bricks of Bondage

There are many walls built my men. The Great Wall of China spans over 13,000 miles long. The walls of Jericho fell 1400 BC, and in 444 BC Nehemiah built the walls of Jerusalem.

But there's another potential wall that we face everyday - a wall that we construct most of our lives, a wall that divides us from others and especially from God. This wall is built with the bricks of sin that we stack high until we have separated ourselves from life. The wall of shame that we make with the bricks of our brokenness and bitterness keep us in bondage to our burdens. And before long we have cut ourselves off from the truth that can set us free.

Isolation is Satan's number one tactic that he uses against us. He tried isolating Jesus in the desert, but he failed. We are vulnerable! Satan uses our isolation and then he says, "You are unwanted and unworthy." Isolation is a setup for destruction as he uses our sins against us. He tries to condemn us and traps us into thinking that we should be comfortable behind our walls forever! That's a lie!

Solomon says in Proverbs 18:1 "A man who isolates himself seeks his own desires; he rages against wise judgement." He is speaking about pride. And pride can be one of the largest and heaviest bricks that can trap our minds and destroy our desires.

Isolation becomes a heavy echo chamber with no external anchor point. Our thoughts stop moving forward and we replay past events and then over analyze our lives. This becomes catastrophic thinking and creates a very distorted reality for our lives in Christ. It's spiritual bondage.

Satan wants to separate us from from each other, stop our fellowship and sour our worship. He's the happiest when we are convinced that we should be isolated behind our wall of shame.

Our desperate and sinful thoughts are the largest bricks that we will ever stand before! And as we stand before our intimating wall, we think that we are going to be burdened and broken for the rest of our lives. But that's when we can pray to our Lord Jesus Christ asking Him to give us the strength to pull down these walls.

Isaac Newton said “Men build too many walls and not enough bridges." Let's take his words seriously as we stop building walls that divide, walls that depress, and walls that deceive. And instead, let's us those bricks for building bridges!

With authority, we can pull down the bricks of sin, shame and sorrow and then turn those bricks into a bridge to our Savior and to our family. So with the power of God, you can pull down the walls of isolation and destruction that lead to spiritual death.

Remember, we are more than conquers!
