A Fruitful Revolution
Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then He said to it, 'May you never bear fruit again!' Immediately the tree withered.”
Mathew 21:19
Some of you may remember the famous line from a popular 70’s song, “What the world needs now is love sweet love, it's the only thing that there’s just too little of.” No matter how old this song is, wow, that line is more truthful than ever!
Every day we face a world that is more and more successful in its own eyes, but less and less fruitful in the eyes of God. We can be at the top of our game, but wound others along the journey! We may be successful in the eyes of the world while horribly demoralizing others. We may be successful in the eyes of man, but totally miss the mark of the kingdom of God. We may be successful in our own eyes but fall short before the ultimate standard of God.
There is a great difference between successfulness and fruitfulness.
We have anarchists rioting and protesting on America’s streets across this country day after day. Black Lives Matter and Antifa are successful at rioting, intimidating, and accusing, but far from being fruitful in God’s eyes. These Marxist, socialist, pro-homosexual, pro-abortion, anti-family, anti-Bible organizations are chipping away at the fabric of truth that covered America in her beginning. They cannot be fruitful according to God’s standard because both are filled with hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness and manipulation.
Folks, it is time for a fruit-filled revolution in our country that’s empowered by the fruit of the Spirit! We have seen our fair share of flesh-filled revolutions over the years, but now it’s time for God’s blood-bought, truth-taught, Spirit-caught church to rise up and show the world a real revolution that changes hearts before it changes the culture.
But first, the church needs to be set free from the shackles that governors, media, educators, and others, have placed on her. It’s time to re-claim our Constitutional rights before it’s too late and re-establish ourselves seated on the front row at the table of ideas.
With the uncertain times that confront our cities, the chaos that surrounds our streets, and the wounds that haunt our nation, it is imperative that Christians go beyond the green leaves of salvation and display the colorful fruit of the Spirit. The fruit that the Holy Spirit produces in us, and through us, puts our faith to the test in a convincing manner for an unbelieving culture to see firsthand.
Remember, Christians know a thing or two about fruitful protesting! It was about 500 years ago when Christians started a fruit-filled revolution that changed lives, churches, and a continent for Christ. It was only a few hundred years ago when Christians sparked a fruit-filled revolution against the most powerful nation on the planet and helped birth the greatest release of liberty into the hearts of millions.
What brings us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control is not successfulness, but fruitfulness!
Fruitfulness is conceived in weakness and humility, vulnerability and brokenness, intimacy and gentleness as truth touches our culture’s wounds. Movements like BLM and Antifa completely fall short in starting a fruitful revolution that this nation desperately needs!
God bless you,
Pastor Dave
