No Strings Attached

Strings Attached means, "to have one or more special conditions, restrictions, obligations, or arrangements that must be met."

Abraham give us a great example of no strings attached with the death of his wife.

“When Sarah was 127 years old, she died at Kiriath-arba (now called Hebron) in the land of Canaan. There Abraham mourned and wept for her. Then, leaving her body, he said to the Hittite elders, “Here I am, a stranger and a foreigner among you. Please sell me a piece of land so I can give my wife a proper burial.” The Hittites replied to Abraham, “Listen, my lord, you are an honored prince among us. Choose the finest of our tombs and bury her there. No one here will refuse to help you in this way.”  Then Abraham bowed low before the Hittites and said, “Since you are willing to help me in this way, be so kind as to ask Ephron son of Zohar to let me buy his cave at Machpelah, down at the end of his field. I will pay the full price in the presence of witnesses, so I will have a permanent burial place for my family.”  Genesis 23:1-9

It must have sounded like a good deal to get the burial cave for free. Often something that is free has strings attached.

Abraham did the wise thing and paid, avoiding indebtedness by accepting no gifts from the people. He didn’t want any strings attached down the road.

Many people live their lives with strings attached. We make decisions every day, but are they the right decisions? We can be our own worst enemy. A “free” sign can end up a dead end,
create a lot of work and not be free at all! If it looks too good to be true, it probably is!

Just because something looks good doesn’t mean it is. Just because something is free doesn’t mean you should have it.

Discipline yourself to seek the Lord, and ask Him for wisdom, and precise discernment. Just because it feels good doesn’t mean we should. Stop living by your feelings and live by faith! Have faith that the Lord knows best. Thank the good Lord for unanswered prayers. He is protecting you from what may be a disaster.

“Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.” Proverbs 4:7

The question is, who do you want running your life? The world will always have strings attached. God never has any strings attached. Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom - He’s a genius!

God bless you,

Deb McClellan
