Resisting Evil

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness.” Ephesians 6:14

Most believers are familiar with the armor of God as laid out in Ephesians 6, but no matter how much we learn about it, there is so much more to discover. Never forget that every piece of our spiritual armor points us to our dependence on Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God.

The great historian Peter Marshall said, “Give to us clear vision that we may know where to stand and what to stand for – because unless we stand for something, we shall fall for anything.” In the days that we are experiencing, our culture ignorantly picks up a lie and runs with it never checking out the consequences that follow. Truth has fallen in the streets and I’m afraid that very few are willing to help it up!

The very first piece of our protective covering is truth. We are instructed to have ourselves, "belted about with truth," for without the gospel of truth which comes from above, we easily believe in lies because we are open the “father of lies” who is Satan. Without the truth of the gospel of Christ, we are dead in our sins and defeated by the lies of Satan and society.

We are to bind the truth to our heart and meditate upon it as much as we can throughout the day. We are to test all things by the Word of Truth and allow it to develop integrity in our heart and faithfulness to our calling as believers in Christ. And we are to speak the truth to others in order for their lives to be set free.

Truth is an amazing gift from God! We are indwelled by the Holy Spirit of truth, and we are expected to trust truth to free us from the assaults that come at us through the power of the enemy of our souls.

Christ is our Savior who has clothed us in His perfect righteousness, and we are declared holy before God by the faith we place in Him. The power of the Holy Spirit works with truth to further protect us from the fiery darts of the enemy.

In the days that we are living in, we all must hold fast to the truth of the gospel of grace that was once delivered to the saints and stand firm under the covering of grace. King David said it perfectly in Psalm 51:6 “You delight in truth in the inward being, and You teach me wisdom in the secret heart.” That verse is so refreshing, isn’t it?

So this week, let’s take up the truth of God so that we will be able to resist the evil all around us and give God the glory for His purpose and providence!

God bless you,

Paul Delisle
