Wands, Witches and Wizards
“Those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
Have you noticed that our culture of all ages is fascinated with the dark side of spiritualty? Why are so many consuming more and more of the occult for entertainment? We have a huge interest in the supernatural and people are turning mostly to the media to learn about it. And that’s dangerous!
Our modern culture has over the last two decades involved itself in horoscopes, seances, Ouija boards, and now witchcraft has become a dangerous interest. Pew Research has disclosed an alarming trend in America. Over the last 15 years, witchcraft has rocketed to the forefront of America’s obsession with the occult. Our younger generation has no problem admitting it is dabbling into the deeper and darker side for its spirituality!
It’s very interesting to me that people are admitting that wands, witches, and wizards give the illusion of control in their life, and so now there has been a huge shift in thinking that the occult will make their lives better.
What's interesting about this is, the sift has taken place right in front of the American Church and it has been strangely silent about it all. So now we’ve left a void in this conversation! We know that the Bible tells us that someone or something will fill that void.
Be warned! This is Satan’s deadly design to see a culture inundated with these sinister themes. Many of these demonic themes are openly found in the video games that Americans of all ages are engaged in for hours each day. I believe that this obsession is desensitizing our culture, especially our children. Many studies are now showing that this is a “new addiction” plaguing our country.
I am convinced that Harry Potter has made the occult look friendly and harmless! Larry Turner who is 17 years old recently said in an interview with CBN after being delivered from his occultic obsession, “I started my dark dive for 5 years by fooling myself that it is all just fun and entertaining to wave wand, cast a simple spell, and have a board game talk to me.”
So what’s the remedy for all this? The Church! Yes, the Church needs to rise up and share the truth that there is only one person we should give control of our lives to and that’s Jesus Christ! He promises to fill our lives with joy and peace. Only Jesus can give us spiritual power that will be eternally rewarding and supernaturally inspiring! When such a large segment of our country finding solace in the occult and not in Christ, we have a lot of work to do.
We live in a day that is very similar to the first century with the occult blatantly all around us. Remember in the book of Acts, Paul and Silas come into a city and immediately encounter the occult. Luke writes, “Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, ‘These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.’ She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, ‘In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!’ At that moment the spirit left her.” Acts 16:16-18
God has called believers to outshine the enemy’s darkness. And this starts by pulling our heads out of the sand and start engaging in conversations with our searching society about the power of God in our lives!
